Constituency for Africa/Harvard University Video Call with Dr. John Nkengasong and the Africa CDC
I moderated a wonderful conversation this morning between the Constituency for Africa (CFA), in partnership with Harvard University, and Dr. John Nkengasong, the Director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, discussing the impact that COVID-19 is having in Africa, and the role of the Diaspora in responding. Dr. Nkengasong outlined in detail the challenges that Africa is facing in addressing COVID-19, and what the African Union and the governments of Africa is doing to respond. Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA), who is the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and also the Chair of the House of Representatives Sub-Committee on Africa and Global Health, also joined the call and provided remarks. An outstanding panel, led by NBA basketball legend Dikembe Mutombo followed, and discussed options for Diaspora engagement and partnerships.
