On Tuesday, October 29, 2019, Dikembe Mutombo attended the third annual Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago, IL. Former president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama returned to Chicago for this the two-day event which kicked off at the Illinois Institute of Technology. The summit featured civil rights activists and celebrities. The event was aimed at helping future leaders find their way.

Later that day Dikembe spoke at the University of Chicago, Institute of Politics where he was featured on the popular podcast, “The Axe Files” hosted by David Axelrod. Axelrod is a former Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama and the current director of the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. Dikembe also took part in a forum in front of students, faculty, and the general public at the University of Chicago where he was interviewed by J.A. Adande, Director of Sports Journalism at Northwestern University and a regular panelist on ESPN’s Around The Horn. DMF board members, Dr. Helene Gayle and Les Coney attended the event to lend their support.
